AWA the leader in conservation and waterfowl enhancement in Alabama

AWA Seed Program for Fall - 1998

Dear Conservationist and Waterfowler:

Between August and December 15th, 1998 with the cooperation of Mr. W. Ladd Johnson of the Resource Management Inc. (RMI) and Pioneer Hi-Bred International Seed Company, AWA obtained and delivered 670,000 pound of seed wheat all over Alabama for the planting of wildlife food plots. This is enough seed wheat to plant 67,005 acres for wildlife in our state. Town and Country Farm and Garden Supply in Scottsboro distributed 45,000 pounds of wheat, and the Alabama Farmers Cooperative (AFC) in Decatur, Alabama was the distributor of over 635,000 pounds of seed wheat. These seeds were distributed free of charge (except for shipping and handling cost) to people in every county of Alabama. This Conservation Habitat Seed Program makes AWA the leader in habitat enhancement in Alabama. By working with the landowners, farmers, hunting clubs and AFC hauling and distributing the seed, AWA achieved this great conservation endeavor with no cost to the Alabama taxpayers.  If you are a landowner, farmer, hunting club or game preserve manager, contact your local Alabama Farmers Coop and ask about the Conservation Habitat Seed Program. If they have not been informed about program, ask the store manager to get in contact with Mr. John Highsmith, Director of Crops with AFC. Mr. Highsmith's number in Decatur is (256) 353-6844 Ext. 346.  AWA would like to thank Pioneer Hi-Bred International, AsGrow, DeKalb Genetics, Mycongen, and Cargill seed companies for supplying the surplus seeds.  We would also like to thank the Alabama Farmers Cooperative for hauling and distribution of the seeds, and Resource Management, Inc. for working with AWA on this program.
